Perhaps it was fate, or just a strange coincidence that Karen was born on St. Patrick’s Day with light green eyes, the luck of the Irish, and the talent to play the Celtic harp.

Karen Meyer has been playing and performing on the Celtic Harp for nearly a decade. She began performing at the tender age of three as a dancer on a regional children’s television variety show in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

She started classical piano at the age of eight and continued her dance training in tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical, modern, and her favorite, Irish Step dancing. As her interest in music grew, she attended Wyoming Seminary near Wilkes-Barre where she studied piano and music theory and studied voice and other instruments with various teachers in the area.

In addition to her musicial talent and training, Karen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts and a Pennsylvania teaching certificate from Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre. She is an accomplished painter and primarily works in watercolors and oils.

After college, Karen continued performing as a professional singer and dancer, and was involved with community theater where she was dance captain in several productions.

For the last twenty-five years, Karen worked as a professional choreographer and dance instructor for a prestigious dance studio and its performing dance troupe. Her choreography has been performed by her dancers in such recognized venues as Disney World and the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.

In the early 1990s, Karen’s enthusiam for Irish dancing piqued her interest in the music of the British Isles which soon led her to play the fiddle and then the Celtic harp. Even though Celtic music is now her specialty on harp, Karen also performs other styles of music including folk, movie and Broadway selections, easy listening, pop, Christian, Christmas, wedding, and many old time favorites as well. Karen has made several trips to the British Isles and Europe to independently study the music and dance of the Celtic countries, especially Ireland. Her interest in Celtic music and its traditions continues as she is now learning the concertina in the Irish style.

Karen also teaches Celtic harp and performs for businesses, pubs, restaurants, tea rooms, schools, churches, weddings, banquets, parties, public and private events. Concert performances or informative speaking programs are available by special request.
